Phoenix Pet Boarding: Caring For Your Pet In The Summer
Owning a pet in Phoenix and the surrounding area comes with an extra amount of responsibility. Many newcomers to the area may not realize the extreme amount of heat that occurs in the summer and how it takes a toll not only on the person but their animals.
Dehydration and death are still a common ocurance which makes one recognize that there are still those who don’t recognize the dangers.
Pet Care In the Summer Rules
- Never Leave Your Pet in a Parked Car. Even if the engine is running, even if you are just dashing into the local convenience store or grocery store, the rule without a doubt is just don’t do it. Leave your pet at home if you are running errands. If you can’t leave your pet at home, there are dog daycare programs around the valley, including ours.
- Limit The Amount of Outside Exercise. It has been hot in the Valley lately and quite typically hot every summer. If you are walking your pet in the summer, limit exercise to early morning or evening hours. Asphalt and concrete in the Phoenix area can become extremely hot and burn your dogs paws. Also, when walking your dog, take water for yourself and your dog as well as a device to provide water for them. Doing this will prevent dehydration.
- Minimize Outside Time. Leaving a dog outside all day in extreme heat can be deadly. Even with shade and water, we have witnessed dogs dying of dehydration. When summer is at its fullest, it would be best to limit the amount of time your pets are outside. When your pets are outside, do provide shade and water as the concrete or rock will be extremely hot.
Taking precautions on behalf of your pets will add to their health and prevent unnecessary death and dehydration.
